The United States Department of Defense (USA) announced the shipment of 1,500 military personnel, as well as helicopters with associated crews and intelligence analysts to “support detection and monitoring efforts” on the border with Mexico.

Authorities have indicated that “this represents a 60% increase in active duty ground forces” since President Donald Trump took office on Monday.

Russia Today (RT) explained that the new contingent would join the approximately 2,500 U.S. National Guard and Reserve troops in the area.

The Pentagon indicated that it will provide military air transport to support the deportation flights of “more than 5,000 illegal aliens from the San Diego (California) and El Paso (Texas) sectors detained by the Customs and Border Protection Service,” which is under the direction of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

In this regard, the department stated that it will begin to collaborate in the construction of “temporary and permanent physical barriers” to increase security and “reduce illegal border crossings and illegal traffic.”
