The Deputy Minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Tatiana Pugh, accompanied the accredited ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Fikry Cassidy, at the reception commemorating the 80th anniversary of the independence of this Southeast Asian nation.

During the protocol ceremony at the headquarters of the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas, with the presence of the diplomatic corps, Pugh stated that Jakarta is a people of undisputed leadership and solidarity in the world, a clear example of this being his strong support for the noble cause of Palestine because of its independence.

“As you know, Palestine for Venezuela is not only a cause of Palestine itself and the world, we (the Venezuelan people) feel, we are Palestinians. For this reason, I could not fail to mention this very important aspect that speaks of the values of the people of Indonesia, of their Government and that also speaks of the values of the people and Government of Venezuela,” he emphasized.

For the Venezuelan diplomat, the 80th anniversary of Indonesia's independence is not only the celebration of a historic date, but also a moment to recognize her achievements in terms of national unity, defense of her sovereignty and commitment to a prosperous future, reflected both in traditions and in her political and social vision .

On August 17, 1945, leaders Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta proclaimed the independence of Indonesia at the end of World War II, following the surrender of Japan.

The Ambassador of Indonesia highlighted that this year the official theme “Unity, Sovereignty, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia” was adopted to commemorate independence, because it reflects the nation's leadership of struggle and its great vision for the future.

He recalled that 66 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Venezuela will soon be celebrated, stressing that “commercial cooperation has been increasing year after year, both in exports and imports, with a growing variety of products marketed”.

Pugh and Cassidy agreed that Caracas and Jakarta are united by the universal ideals of freedom, justice and solidarity, a shared vision that reinforces the commitment to strengthening cooperation and fostering mutual understanding.

At the protocol reception, the parties symbolically sealed the brotherhood and solidarity that has united them since October 9, 1959; a historic relationship that has allowed for the deepening of strategic cooperation in trade and investment, always under the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
