The governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, reported that commercial exchange between Venezuela and Colombia amounted to 1.1 billion dollars, with the Andean entity playing a leading role.

During an interview with a private media outlet, the regional president offered a positive assessment of local economic developments following the historic border opening agreement reached between the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, and his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro.

“Today we can proudly say that the economy has been recovering. Of those 1.1 billion dollars, 453 million are traded directly between Táchira and Norte de Santander. This means that our state accounts for 39 percent of the binational trade relationship,” Bernal said.

He indicated that four forms of payment currently converge in the state of Táchira: Colombian pesos, which represent the highest percentage of transactions; bolivars, used at 20%; US dollars, with an approximate incidence of 10% and digital currency, as an emerging new form of exchange.

The Governor highlighted the transformation of commercial dynamics between Táchira and Norte de Santander and noted that work has been done to regulate logistics processes, such as insurance and cargo transportation, with the support of entities such as ProColombia and the Venezuelan Chamber of Economic Integration (CAVECOL).
