Last Wednesday, December 10, the Venezuelan delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Audiovisual Culture, Sergio Arria, held a meeting with the Cuban Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, and the president of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), Alexis Triana Hernández, in the framework of the 46th Havana Film Festival, in Cuba.
From the stand in Venezuela, representatives of both countries took the opportunity to analyze the film scene in Latin America and the Caribbean, and evaluate the creation of future binational cooperation alliances in the audiovisual sector. As a gesture of brotherhood, during the meeting, Minister Alonso was presented with publications from the National Cinematheque of Venezuela.
Arria emphasized the vision shared by both countries on the importance of regional cinema. “We were able to exchange experiences and visions about the importance of Latin American and Caribbean cinema, in a context where cultural hegemony is historically being tried to impose it from the north. But we are convinced that we must build our own distribution, production and training networks,” he said.
In addition to Deputy Minister Sergio Arria, the Venezuelan delegation is made up of the president of the National Film Foundation, Vladimir Sosa; the executive director of the National Film Foundation, Caira Gómez; the executive manager of the Film Village, Blanca Gómez, and the filmmaker Álvaro Cáceres.
This binational meeting reaffirms the will of Venezuela and Cuba to deepen their historic bonds of solidarity, brotherhood and cultural exchange, with the objective of promoting the development of films made in the region.
