The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, met with the Turkish ambassador to Venezuela, Aydan Karamanoğlu, and both delegations agreed on the need to revitalize international law and guarantee respect for the principles of sovereignty, self-determination, immunity of Heads of State and prohibition of the unilateral use of force, as established by the Charter of the United Nations.

During the meeting, Minister Gil explained the situation created after the military aggression of January 3 against Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, events that represent a violation of the fundamental principles of the multilateral system.

The authorities also examined current domestic and international politics, as well as developments in bilateral relations. Both sides stressed the importance of accelerating joint work plans for the benefit of the peoples of Turkey and Venezuela.

Minister Gil reiterated that Venezuela will continue to promote dialogue and diplomacy as ways for the peaceful resolution of disputes and the defense of the international legal order.
