Venezuela attends international event for the conservation of Atlantic fisheries

A delegation from Venezuela is present at the 24th Annual Meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT), a meeting that takes place in the city of Limassol, Cyprus, from November 11 to 18.

This international organization controls the fishing of tuna (tuna) and other related species in the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas and of which the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is a contracting party, the Ministry of Popular Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture reported on its Instagram account .

It specifies that currently, 125 fishing vessels in the industrial tuna fleet, flying the Venezuelan flag, operate in compliance with conservation recommendations and measures.

The delegation reiterated the commitment of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the permanent development and management of fisheries in a sustainable manner and the guidelines to be adopted by member countries of the Commission.

Among the results of the meeting, the Standing Committee on Research and Statistics (SCRS) provides biological data and information on fish stocks that are of fundamental interest to Venezuela, as well as the review and development of recommendation proposals related to management and conservation for tropical tuna, beaked fish, sharks, among others, in addition to the catch quotas by country.

The Venezuelan delegation is made up of the general director of Industrial Fisheries, Jeiris Galicia; the correspondent statistician of Venezuela, Eucaris Evaristo and the director of the Artisanal Maritime Fishing Line of the Ministry of the People's Power of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Giovanna Giandolfi.
