In a statement released by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, this Tuesday Venezuela celebrated the decision of the Government of the United States (USA) to remove Cuba from the arbitrary list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism.
The text states that it was “an unfair designation that should never have been applied. This step, although positive, must be accompanied by the immediate lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that for more than 60 years has profoundly affected the Cuban people and has been rejected by the international community.”

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela welcomes the limited decision of the United States Government to remove Cuba from the list of States Sponsors of Terrorism, an unfair designation that should never have been applied. This step, although positive, must be accompanied by the immediate lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that for more than 60 years has profoundly affected the Cuban people and has been rejected by the international community.
Cuba has historically been a victim of terrorism, not a promoter of it, and has demonstrated its commitment to peace and global solidarity by mediating conflicts and supporting the peoples of the world. In this context, we recognize the leadership of President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, who have guided Cuba with firmness and dignity in the face of decades of aggression.
Venezuela demands that the United States fully respect the principles of the United Nations Charter, the cessation of political and economic harassment against Cuba, and the end of all unilateral sanctions that violate the sovereignty of peoples.
