Venezuela joins the commemoration of the 58th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. , an extraordinary civil rights leader in the United States.

“The tireless struggle of Martín Luther King Jr., was fundamental to ending racial segregation and discrimination,” said the Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil in a post on his Telegram channel.

Gil highlighted Luther King's commitment to social justice, the eradication of poverty and the fight against racism, which “left an indelible mark on history.”

“His defense of human dignity is a legacy that we admire and that continues to inspire all peoples of the world,” Gil emphasized.

Luther King's life was cut short on April 4, 1968 and he is remembered today not only as a martyr, but as the architect of a peaceful resistance that transformed power structures in the 20th century.
