The ambassador permanent representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations (UN), Samuel Moncada, reported that this Tuesday, April 09, “we prevented the Government of Guyana and its allies from imposing their false version of Guiana Essequiba” on the United Nations Security Council.
In his account on the social network X, he highlighted that “Venezuela spoke for the first time in the Council after two generations”, at the headquarters of the organization, where the Venezuelan delegation was invited to the session requested by the government of Guyana and which was dedicated to the territorial dispute over the Venezuelan Essequibo territory.
Through a video, Moncada explained that “we participated as guests and it was very interesting, I think we did our job, because if we hadn't been there, look what would have happened”.
He stated that the Guyanese government was about to convince the members of the Security Council that all the territory belongs to them.
“That we want to take two-thirds of their territory from them, that they have full rights, that the Paris Award of 1899 was perfect, that we are happy to accept that award, that we went crazy and now we want to take them away from them,” he said.
Moncada revealed that the usurping representation of the Essequibo was intended to make us believe that the oil concessions that Guyana is giving to transnational oil companies are in good standing and “perfectly legal”, although they were careful to report that they are carried out in undelimited waters.
“That they don't understand why we are saying that this oil is not theirs and that now we want to invade them,” he said.
The diplomat specified that this is the vision that was tried to impose on the UN Security Council, and some member countries even tried to express support. “We explain that with the 1899 Award they robbed us,” he said.
He added that “the Security Council realized that there are two versions and that the Guyana version has no basis,” said Moncada, assuring that the Government and the People of Venezuela are defending truth, reality, and will not cease to enforce respect for the legal and historical rights of their sovereign territory.
