The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, reported that this Thursday, August 28, Venezuela, through the Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN), delivered a communication to the Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, denouncing the aggressive and dangerous escalation of the United States government against the country.
In his account on the social network Telegram, Gil said that “we condemn the US military deployment in the Caribbean, with destroyers, a missile cruiser and, for the first time in history, a NUCLEAR attack SUBMARINE. Introducing nuclear weapons into our region is an unacceptable provocation.”
In this regard, he specified that such action openly violates the Treaty of Tlatelolco; the UN Charter and the CELAC Proclamation declaring Latin America a Zone of Peace.
“This represents an unprecedented threat to hemispheric stability and world peace, and that is why we urge the Secretary General to actively defend the principles of the UN Charter and call on the United States to cease its hostile actions,” he stressed.
Gil emphasized that “Venezuela is not a threat to anyone, but we will never accept the imposition of force.”
