The Venezuela-European Union Parliamentary Friendship Group advocates dialogue and an end to sanctions, said the president of this legislative body, deputy Jorge Arreaza, this Thursday, April 16, during the meeting they held with a high-level EU delegation.

During the activity, Arreaza highlighted the importance of the new political moment that the nation is experiencing, which is characterized by processes of depolarization and a consensus among the various partisan forces that live in Parliament, highlights a publication by the AN on its website.

He also raised the need to establish a program of cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy that would allow MEPs to know first-hand the Venezuelan reality.

For his part, the Deputy Director for the Americas of the European Foreign Action Service (EEAS), Pelayo Castro, pointed out that this mission is part of a new phase, for the country and its relations with the world.

He also reaffirmed that the delegation's visit is based on a spirit of mutual understanding and absolute respect for sovereignty, principles that are inextricably linked to international law, he said.

In addition to Pelayo Castro, the European Union delegation includes the head of the Division for South America, Adriana Vásquez; and the EU's chargé d'affaires in Venezuela, María Antonia Calvo Puerta.
