Venezuela expanded volunteer brigades to deal with oil spill in Güiria (+Trinidad and Tobago)

Venezuela's multidisciplinary technical panel, which deals with the environmental consequences of the oil spill that originated in Trinidad and Tobago, has expanded the number of volunteer brigades that are working together to contain the incident in Güiria, Sucre state.
In the workspace, which articulate institutions, which include officials from the Ministry of Ecosocialism, Fisheries and Science and Technology, with volunteers from the Government of Sucre.
The governor of the eastern entity, Jhoanna Carrillo, requested the activation of an inter-institutional command post in the town, to continuously monitor the situation and provide support to those who work to clean mangroves, beaches and aquatic spaces, MINEC press reports.
In this regard, the installation of a General Staff of Ecosocialism was instructed, which will carry out continuous monitoring together with Science and Technology specialists, through the Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities (ABAE), to establish how the movement of the incident is going and what areas it may affect.
In addition, together with the Ministry of Fisheries, the urgency of paying special attention to fishing communities in the area was established, as it is a region dependent on fishing activity and which will be affected by this spill.
In this regard, these sectors will be convened as volunteers, to speed up cleaning processes.
On Wednesday, May 13, a new group of marine biologists, engineers from the area and a group of scientific experts from several institutions will travel to Güiria to join the operational work team in the affected area.
