The Venezuelan State achieved numerous achievements in cultural training policies, a fact highlighted by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Raúl Cazal, during his participation in the Ibero-American Congress of Artistic and Cultural Education and Training “Arts for Peace” 2026, which is taking place in Bogotá, Colombia.
During his speech in the panel Culture and Education: Training trainers for a regional artistic education agenda, Cazal highlighted the success of the Cultural Mission. This initiative, in partnership with the Simón Rodríguez National Experimental University (UNESR), has qualified more than 25,000 graduates in Cultural Development with a territorial deployment approach.
“This is a work that is done with follow-up. It's being in the territory because it's not about training graduates to be in the capitals, but to be all over the territory, so that our people can have access to that knowledge. It's a way to democratize our culture, our way of seeing cultural diversity,” he explained.
The holder of the cultural portfolio emphasized that Venezuela has 59 public universities, of which 15 offer specialized studies in the cultural field. He highlighted the National Experimental University of the Arts (Unearte) and its national training programs in plastic arts, dance, music and theater, audiovisual arts, history, goldsmithery, jewelry and education for the arts.
He also highlighted that the Venezuelan National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras and Choirs currently has 443 centers and provides care to more than 1,300,000 children and young people throughout Venezuela. He also emphasized the success of the César Rengifo National Theater Movement, created in 2013, and which has attracted the participation of more than 45,000 students.
In addition, he noted that initiatives such as the Venezuelan International Book Fair (Filven) and the various theater festivals achieved an efficient reach in communities. “As part of the State's commitment to the promotion of national identity,” Cazal highlighted the creation of the Great Living Venezuela Mission, My Dear Patria, which has 515,232 cultivators and is dedicated to the promotion of traditional demonstrations. Finally, he called for promoting critical and decolonizing thinking in the face of hegemonic cultural models.
