The Border Office of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs (MPPRE) participates in the 20th Meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management and the 20th Meeting of the Working Group on Monitoring and Evaluation of the Water Convention, held from October 13 to 15, at the Palace of Nations, Geneva, Switzerland.
Experts Jhonny Vergara, coordinator of the Environmental Affairs Area of the Directorate of Territorial Sovereignty, together with Arlenis Brito, representative of the Coordination of Cross-Border Basins shared with Colombia of the Presidential Negotiating Commission (CONEG), attend the event as official delegates from Venezuela, the MPPRE reported on its website.
During the meeting, the relevance of the comprehensive management of transboundary and underground water resources was highlighted, promoting binational and multilateral dialogue for the respectful and sustainable use of these shared spaces.
In addition, the need to implement joint projects between neighboring countries, incorporating the climate component into their planning, was emphasized.
For Venezuela, this participation is especially important, given that it shares hydrographic basins with neighboring countries that require comprehensive public protection policies.
These actions are aligned with Action Focus 6.2.1.4 of the Plan of the 7 Transformations, which contemplates the preservation of strategic ecosystems such as the Andes, the Amazon Basin, the Guiana Massif and the Esequibo territory.
