The Government of Venezuela announced this Friday the completion of the recovery and collection process of a debt of 500 million dollars derived from the supply of hydrocarbons to Haiti through the PETROCARIBE agreement.

This was confirmed in his account on the social network X, by the Minister of Communication and Information, Freddy Ñañez, where he published a statement stating that the debt was generated within the framework of the PETROCARIBE Energy Cooperation Agreement.

“All international financial agencies described the debt in question as uncollectible, given the complex economic and default situation that Haiti has been experiencing for several years. These agencies had even requested its forgiveness, in view of the humanitarian crisis facing that country,” said Ñáñez.

He added that the administration of Nicolás Maduro recovered resources after an agreement that also allowed the economic contribution to the island, a country that faces great economic and social challenges.

“With this operation, Venezuela is taking another step on the path of obtaining the necessary financial resources to continue making progress in the progressive recovery of the welfare state achieved by the Bolivarian Revolution before the start of the multifaceted aggression carried out against the country,” he concluded.
