The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejects the “fearless statements of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, in which he dares to give his opinion on legislative actions of the Venezuelan National Assembly, relating to the regulation of Non-Governmental Organizations”.
Through an official statement, published on the Telegram account of the Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, he specified that Mr. Turk removes his mask and assumes the role for which he was placed in said bureaucratic position of the United Nations System by the imperial powers, assuming himself as an accuser against the Bolivarian Government and whitewash the violent hordes that threatened the peace and tranquility of Venezuelans, killing innocents, setting fire to schools, hospitals, headquarters of political parties, and public spaces in the community, in a clear action violating Human Rights.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects, in the strongest terms, the shameless statements of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, in which he dares to express his opinion on the legislative initiatives of the Venezuelan National Assembly, relating to the regulation of Non-Governmental Organizations and the fight against hate speech and the eradication of fascism and Nazism as political expressions contrary to constitutional principles.
Mr. Turk takes off his mask and assumes the role for which he was placed in that bureaucratic position of the United Nations System by the imperial powers, assuming himself as an accuser against the Bolivarian Government and whitewash the violent hordes that attacked the peace and tranquility of Venezuelans, murdering innocents, setting fire to schools, hospitals, political party headquarters, and public spaces in the community, in a clear violation of Human Rights. The High Commissioner deliberately omits condemnation of these events, of which he has sufficient and detailed information, violating his mandate and choosing to surrender to those who promote a coup d'etat, which is a serious violation of the responsibilities due to the position he holds.
The Bolivarian Government is certain that it is not Mr. Turk's ignorance that pushes it to ignore that the vast majority of countries in the world, on all continents, have developed laws to protect people from the evils of fascism and Nazism, and they have developed an important package of legal instruments to regulate the functions of NGOs, which in many cases represent dark interests that seek to twist the welfare of peoples over the duty of States.
Venezuela reiterates its call to the High Commissioner to desist from his provocative attitude and away from his responsibilities, to cease his brutal attack against Venezuelan institutions and to side with the victims of extreme right violence, who, using fascist methods, have tried to inflict harm on the Venezuelan population.
