On behalf of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its Sports
Delegation, the Minister of Popular Power for
Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, rejected the decision of the
International Olympic Committee not to allow the judo athlete Elvismar Rodríguez to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic
Games.
Gil described the provision of the International Judo
Federation (FIJ) as precarious, since it did not grant the Olympic quota “claiming
that only 10,500 athletes can participate despite the ruling in favor of Venezuelan
judoka ruled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport”.
Regarding this situation, the Board
of Directors of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee supported the athlete through a statement.
