Venezuela rejects separatist attempt and supports territorial defense in Somalia

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirmed last Saturday its commitment to international law, in the face of separatist interests in Somalia.

In a statement, the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs stressed that “this principle is inviolable and constitutes the basis for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and around the world.”

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in exercise of its sovereign foreign policy and committed to the most sacred principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, addresses its voice to the international community to reaffirm its full and firm recognition of the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia within its internationally recognized borders. This principle is inviolable and forms the basis for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and around the world.

Venezuela adheres to and supports the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the decisions of the African Union that support the territorial integrity of Somalia.

In line with the position expressed by the Somali Government and backed by sister nations, Venezuela categorically rejects any unilateral action aimed at recognizing separatist entities within Somali territory. Such acts constitute a flagrant violation of international law, undermine regional stability and represent a dangerous precedent for the international system.

Finally, Venezuela calls for the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue, mutual respect and multilateral mechanisms. A lasting solution to the challenges facing Somalia can only be achieved by respecting its sovereignty and supporting its legitimate institutions, without interference in internal affairs that violate its territorial integrity.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirms its unwavering commitment to peace, the self-determination of peoples and a multicentric and multipolar world order, just and respectful of international law.
