On Tuesday, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela delivered a letter to the President of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN), Samuel Žbogar, to denounce the theft of the Venezuelan oil tanker by the United States (USA) in international waters of the Caribbean Sea, described as “an act of piracy”.
In the letter, delivered by the permanent representative of Venezuela to the multilateral entity, Ambassador Samuel Moncada, on behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, the Latin American nation “formally denounced a serious act of use of force, kidnapping and piracy sponsored and committed by the United States of America, on December 10, 2025, in international waters of the Caribbean, against a private ship dedicated to licit international trade carrying Venezuelan oil”.
The information was shared by Foreign Minister Yván Gil on his Telegram channel, where he also noted that the ship's crew members “were kidnapped and even, as of today, they remain missing.”
“We also reiterate that Venezuela will continue to exercise its sovereign and inalienable right to legitimately market its resources and demand that no legal operation be subject to theft, kidnapping or acts of piracy, wherever it comes from,” said Gil.
