In a statement, released by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, the Government of the
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejected on Monday the “sanctions policy”
promoted by the European Union (EU) against the country, which “has proven to be a
resounding failure, significantly deteriorating political and diplomatic relations.”
“The leaders
of that block have unfortunately chosen to accelerate their own
political decline, insisting on a line of sterile hostility against Venezuela, which
evidences an erratic foreign policy,” the document states.

The
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the policy of sanctions
and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the European Union, as it is
illegitimate, illegal and contrary to International Law, as well as to the
principles and purposes enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
The leaders of
that block have unfortunately chosen to accelerate their own
political decline, insisting on a line of sterile hostility against Venezuela, which
evidences an erratic foreign policy, lacking autonomy and subject to interests outside the peoples they claim to represent.
After years of
implementation, this policy of sanctions has proven to be a resounding failure, significantly
deteriorating political and diplomatic relations and
confirming the growing irrelevance of the European Union as an
international actor capable of acting with independence, rationality and respect for sovereign States.
