Venezuela sent 46 tons of supplies to Cuba and Jamaica, as part of humanitarian aid after the effects that these nations suffered as a result of the passage of hurricane Melissa.
The activity was led by the foreign minister, Yván Gil, who from Simón Bolívar International Airport, in the state of La Guaira, 26 tons are sent through Conviasa to Cuba; the other 20 are destined for Jamaica, while adding that a shipment is being prepared for Cuba with another 3,000 tons of aid, which will come out in the coming days.
“In this difficulty faced by the peoples of the Caribbean, affected by Hurricane Melissa, -which we must say is the product of all the effects of climate change-, we come out in the lead, as we know that Cuba always comes to the forefront with its solidarity for the world,” he said.
He specified that the shipment is composed of “medical supplies, food and infrastructure to deal with the emergency.”
For his part, the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández, thanked the Bolivarian Republic for its support, “we embrace the brother Bolivarian people. We thank the entire Government team for this new step. The solidarity of the Venezuelan people is permanently in Cuba.”
Finally, he indicated that while the United States is dedicated to pressuring and threatening the peoples of Latin America, Venezuela crosses the Caribbean with solidarity boats and a plane of love, “with the courage and the right that assist us”, in an example for the rest of the countries (...) in these shipments “no threats, nor aircraft carriers”, but rather food and medicine.
