Venezuela, through the Minister of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Julio León Heredia, at the 39th Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Latin America and the Caribbean, shared the advances achieved in food security and the recovery of its productive system, despite the impact of more than a thousand unilateral coercive measures that have restricted access to inputs, technologies and funding.
During her participation, Heredia specified that currently, the country produces 96% of the food it consumes and has managed to reduce the indicators of undernourishment to 5.9% and the nutritional deficit to 3%, also confirming its willingness to strengthen regional cooperation to advance the eradication of hunger.
“These advances respond to the policies promoted by President Nicolás Maduro, within the framework of the Economic Recovery Program, under the leadership of our president in charge Delcy Rodríguez,” he said.
He also said that “this has been a day full of symbolism, commemorating 13 years since the planting of Commander Hugo Chávez, Venezuela reaffirms its conviction that a people that produce their food is a truly free people.”
In another message, Heredia reported that he held a high-level meeting with the Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Dr. Qu Dongyu, in which they highlighted progress in the formulation of projects for Venezuela in regenerative agriculture and livestock.
