Venezuela suspends gas supply to Trinidad and Tobago due to complicity in oil tanker theft (statement)

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, ordered this Monday to immediately terminate any contract or negotiation involving the supply of gas to Trinidad and Tobago, given the complicity of the government of the Caribbean country in the theft of the Venezuelan oil tanker by the United States (USA).

In a statement, released by the Executive Vice President and Minister of Hydrocarbons, Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela stated that “this act of piracy constitutes a serious violation of international law and a frank violation of the principles of free navigation and trade.”

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reports that it has been fully aware of the participation of the government of Trinidad and Tobago in the theft of Venezuelan oil, committed by the U.S. administration on December 10 with the assault of a ship carrying this strategic product from Venezuela. This act of piracy constitutes a serious violation of international law and a frank violation of the principles of free navigation and trade.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has revealed a hostile agenda against Venezuela since she came to the government, including the installation of U.S. military radars to siege vessels carrying Venezuelan oil. This official has turned the territory of Trinidad and Tobago into a U.S. aircraft carrier to attack Venezuela, in an unequivocal act of vassalage.

Faced with this escalation of hostilities and serious aggressions, President Nicolás Maduro Moros proceeded, at the time, to denounce the Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation signed with Trinidad and Tobago.

Today, faced with this very serious fact that seeks to vulgarly steal oil from Venezuela, the Venezuelan Government has decided to immediately terminate any contract, agreement or negotiation for the supply of natural gas to that country.

Venezuela is respected! And it will not allow any colonial entity and its vassals to attack the country's sacred sovereignty and its right to development. Venezuela will always win.
