This Friday, February 28, the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, wished on behalf of Venezuela to the Muslim community in the world, especially the “courageous people of Palestine”, a prosperous start to the holy month of Ramadan, the second since the start of Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Through his account on the social network Instagram, Gil stated that “the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela extends its best wishes to the entire Muslim community in the world.”

“Especially to the one who resides in our country and to the courageous people of Palestine, for a prosperous and blessed start to Ramadan,” he said.

Ramadan is a religious period where believers in Islam must abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual intercourse from dawn to dusk, and only pregnant or menstruating women, the sick and travelers are exempt.

The ritual commemorates the first divine revelation to the Prophet Muhammad and constitutes one of the five pillars of religion, mandatory for all adults with the exception of health, old age or travel.

It is also a time of community celebration, where Muslims come together to share food, offer gifts and reinforce a sense of belonging to the community.
