The Venezuelan table tennis delegation has won five medals in the first few days of the U-15 and U-19 South American Youth Championship, which is being held in the city of Chapecó, in Brazil.

The national team has so far won a gold medal, a silver medal and three bronze medals in the regional competition, the Ministry of Popular Power for Sports reported.

Carlos Ríos and Jonathan Vegas achieved the most outstanding result when they were proclaimed champions in the U19 men's doubles category. The pair defeated Ecuadorians Joshua Robayo and Boris Villavicencio 3-1 (11-6, 18-16 and 11-4) in the final, after overcoming an initial disadvantage of 16-18 in the first set.
In the U15 men's team category, the team formed by Jonas Golding, Aram Pérez, Ángel Hernández and Emmanuel Salcedo won the silver medal. The group reached the final after defeating Colombia and Ecuador, both 3-0, and then succumbing to the Brazilian team.

The Venezuelan medal table was completed with three bronze medals in the team divisions. The women's under-15 team, made up of Alondra González, Sofía Criollo, Carla Salvatierra and Valeria Santaella, rose to the podium after losing in the semifinal against Ecuador (3-1). For their part, in the under-19 category, both the women's team (Dakota Ferrer, Gabriela López, Paola Zerpa and Bárbara Betancourt) and the men's (Jonathan Vegas, Carlos Ríos, Saúl Bejar and Ludwing Perozo) secured third place at the end of their participation against the Brazilian teams.

The competition program foresees, in the next few hours, the start of the mixed doubles rounds, where Venezuela will try to expand its record in both categories.
