Venezuelans Emily Torrez, Natalia Machado and Diego del Moral won gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively at the IV South American Youth Games Panama 2026.
Emily Torrez climbed to the top of the podium in the women's individual sabre event after beating Colombian Celeste Parra 15-8 (8-5, 7-3) in the fight for the gold medal.
For their part, the bronze medal was shared by Argentina's Borreli and Bolivia's Briana Iriarte.
On the road to the gold medal, Torrez began with authority by presenting a perfect record of 3 victories over Argentina's Catalina Sol Borrelli, Brazil's Ana Fongaro and Panama's Daniela Correa.
In the quarterfinals, she beat Paraguayan Daniela Correa 15-4 to enter the semifinals where she beat Argentina's Catalina Borrelli 15-9 to seal her way to the final.
For her part, Natalia Machado won the silver medal after falling in the final 15-2 to Peru's Astrid Machado in the individual women's foil.
The bronze medal went to Colombia's María Verdesoto and Brazil's Valentina Basso.
On the other hand, Diego del Moral won the bronze after falling 15-11 (4-7, 6-3, 1-5) to Panamanian Caleb Caldito in the semifinal of the men's singles sword.
