Last Saturday, the composer and musician Gerry Weil, who is considered the master of Venezuelan
jazz, started from this
earthly plane, as announced by his son Gerhard Weil, through his account on
the social network Instagram.
“You said goodbye to this earthly plane
so that your music resonates freely in eternity, Gerry (Gerhard Von Weilheim
Chalupa), you were and will continue to be my hero of life, my best friend, a being of light that will shine forever in our hearts,” he wrote.
He also highlighted that everything he loved about
Venezuela and the infinite legacy it leaves in music. “Your legacy is eternal,
infinite and universal. You loved Venezuela like no one else and you fulfilled your promise to
return with infinite gratitude to this blessed land, training thousands of the
best musicians in Venezuela who shine around the world. We love you forever,”
he said.
Weil, born in Vienna, Austria, immigrated to Venezuela in 1957, where he began his formal musical education at the age of 17; for the artistic world, he was considered a man whose legacy transcends decades, rhythms, fusions and genres, in a combination of three dissimilar concepts: Austria, jazz and Venezuela, reported Venezolana de Televisión.
