Venezuelan weightlifter Julio Mayora won the gold medal at the start with a lift of 154 kg, in the 73 kg.
At the José Joaquín Papá Carrillo Gymnasium, in Miranda, the Pan-American Weightlifting Championship — Pre-Olympic Venezuela 2024 was inaugurated on Saturday.
Despite this triumph, the Olympic medalist was unable to win the title in Envión, so he finished second in his division.
One of the favorites for the host country, such as Keydomar Vallenilla, is expected to participate in this sporting contest this Tuesday.
This event, which will take place until February 29, involves 180 continental weightlifting athletes from 20 countries seeking tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In addition to Mayora and Vallenilla, the female athletes Dayana Chirinos, Victoria Tovar and Laura Peinado stand out as part of a group of 20 Venezuelan athletes at the event.
The president of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Mohammed Jalood, thanked the Venezuelan authorities for making it possible for the event to take place in this nation.
