Venezuelan Parliament authorizes appointments of ambassadors to Belgium and Portugal

The National Assembly (AN) authorized this Tuesday, during its regular session, the appointment of Raúl Li Causi as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Belgium, with attendance before the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and as head of the Mission to the European Union, and Juan Carlos Fernandes Juárez as Venezuelan ambassador to Portugal.

Li Causi has a track record in the foreign service and public administration. He was Deputy Minister for the Caribbean of the Foreign Ministry and chaired the ALBA Bank, in addition to holding diplomatic responsibilities in regional integration mechanisms. In the energy field, he also chaired PDV-Caribe S.A., a subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela.

Fernandes Juárez, for his part, served as ambassador to Vietnam, attending Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos, between 2023 and 2026. Before that diplomatic responsibility, he held the position of ambassador to Mozambique.

At the same session, the AN approved the Act Approving the Protocol of 1997 corresponding to Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships.
