Venezuelan pentathlon won eight medals in Brazil

The Venezuelan delegation closed its participation in the South American Modern Pentathlon Championship, held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, with a balance of eight medals: two golds, three silver and three bronzes.

In the women's under-15 category, Melany Azócar won the gold medal with a total of 1020 points, the silver medal went to the Panamanian Isabel Ibarra (1011) and the Peruvian Zoe Vargas (970), according to the press release of the Ministry of Popular Power for Sport.

Azócar also contributed to the podium in the under-15 mixed relay category, winning silver with Diego Mendoza with 1,188 points, second only to the Argentinian pair who had 1,250 units and bronze went to Panama with 1,142.

The Venezuelan Mendoza won individual gold in the under-17 category with 1,415 points, beating the Argentinian Fernando Valdir (1,400) and the Venezuelan Jackson Sánchez (1,300).

Sánchez also won the individual silver medal, after excelling in fencing with 18 wins, a solid fifth place in OCR with 0:36.73, eighth position in swimming with 1:04.65, and a final record of 10:00 in the Laser Run event.

In addition, together with Mendoza, he scored enough points to obtain the bronze medal for teams, consolidating Venezuela in third place overall in this demanding competition.

In the under-19 category, Ariana Víveres and Moisés Navarro won silver in mixed relay with 1,239 points, only behind Ecuador with 1,272 points, while Panama took bronze with 1185.

In the same way, Víveres also won bronze in the under-19 singles with 1,313 points, behind Argentina's Catalina Serio (1356) and Ecuador's Luciana Aroca (1334).
