Venezuelan pitcher Ranger Suárez, from the Philadelphia Phillies, was named Major League National League Player of the Week (August 18-24).

Suárez left a 2-0 record and an ERA of 1.32 (13.2 IP/2 CL), allowing seven hits without walks, with 21 strikeouts, a WHIP of 0.51, an opponent batting average of .146 and 13.83 fanned for every 9.0 innings, LVBP press review.

The Venezuelan dominated the guillotine department in the Grand Tents, tied for the lead in victories, equalized second place in innings thrown and placed eighth in WHIP, among the starters.

This is the first time that the native of the state Lara has won that award in his career in Major League Baseball (MLB).

With his recognition, Suárez gave the second award to the Phillies, after the selection of Zack Wheeler, on July 7.
