The president of the Venezuelan Real Estate Chamber, Pablo González, reiterated the need to reform the sector's legal framework to accelerate the reconstruction and reactivation of housing solutions after the recent earthquakes, during an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV). The union representative pointed out that it is imperative to adapt existing laws to the current urgencies of the population.
González proposed the in-depth review of key legal provisions such as the Real Estate Scam Act, the Leasing Act and the Mortgage Debtor Act. He explained that the purpose of this evaluation is to formulate new legal proposals that strengthen and provide confidence in the right to private property.
The spokesperson also referred to the importance of allowing direct contracts in foreign currency to be concluded legally and without prohibitions. He argued that current legislation prevents the creation of mortgages in foreign exchange, despite the fact that the real estate sector operates regularly under this modality in the current economy.
The director placed special emphasis on the reality of the middle class sectors, mentioning the specific case of the municipality of Chacao. He indicated that, although many citizens own their real estate as their main asset, they lack the necessary bank liquidity to cover material damage caused by seismic events.
González expressed concern for families who are still in temporary camps due to the fear of not being able to afford the repairs. Given this, he urged the creation of specific financial instruments within the framework of humanitarian aid to facilitate the safe and reliable return of people to their homes.
