Venezuelan scientific team develops artificial intelligence model to study brain activity

The sector vice-president for Science, Technology and Health, Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, shared an article this Thursday in which they point out that a scientific team is developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) model that is able to determine with more than 90% success if brain activity scans come from a woman or a man.

He explained that sex is an important biological factor that influences human behavior. According to the study, the biological factor impacts brain function and the manifestation of psychiatric and neurological disorders, but so far research on how brain organization differs between men and women has not been conclusive.

With recent advances in artificial intelligence and large functional magnetic resonance imaging (functional MRI) data sets, an AI-based tool has been created that makes it possible to establish solid, generalizable and interpretable neurobiological measures of sexual differences in psychiatric and neurological disorders.

The combination of AI and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) improves the early detection and evaluation of a series of pathologies that can be treated in a timely manner, said the minister.
