In the Science and Technology Park, Más Ciencia is making progress in the development of a new generation of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), designed and manufactured entirely in Venezuela with the objective of modernizing and strengthening domestic production on a small and medium scale.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT), integrates the technical capabilities of the National Center for Development and Research in Free Technologies Foundation (CENDITEL) and the companies Alcaraván Technological Systems and Vultur Technological Systems, which work jointly on the design, development and assembly of these devices.
The president of CENDITEL, Juan Carlos Villegas, explains that these computers are aimed at “building industrial productions from the point of view of process automation, task monitoring and robotization in the production” of goods and services.
This cutting-edge equipment makes it possible to optimize production lines, reduce operational errors, make the use of resources more efficient and improve the quality of the final product in various strategic sectors for the country's development.
One of the peculiarities of this project, according to a MINCYT press release, is its value chain, since both conception and assembly are carried out on national territory, which opens up opportunities for technical training, creation of specialized employment and strengthening of own industrial capacities.
According to Villegas, the technology applied in these PLCs allows for greater diversification of the domestic market, because the software and hardware can be precisely adapted to the requirements of the producers.
“The technology that we are applying right now allows us to diversify the market in the sense that we can give it much more precise applications according to the needs of domestic producers. That is, to meet both the needs and the installed capacities and adapt the technology to them,” he said.
The central focus of this development is to offer technological solutions adapted to the Venezuelan productive reality, breaking with the dependence on imported equipment that is usually designed for industrial contexts.
For the president of CENDITEL, the incorporation of PLCs in the productive apparatus would contribute to “improving production capacities, technical capabilities and motivating the use of technology in the National Development System and in the National Production System”.
