Venezuelan wrestling athletes won 10 championship medals in Brazil

Venezuelan wrestling athletes won ten medals, five silver and the same number of bronze medals, in the Pan-American Championship of the under-17 category that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Merlis Leoriany won the silver one in the 40 kilos of the fight. On his way, he triumphed in the semifinal round against Mexico's Zoe Vásquez (5-0); later, in the fight for gold metal, he yielded to the American Maisie Elliott with a score of 10-2.

For her part, Valeria Narváez (46 kg) also won the silver one, after falling in the final against the American Jaclyn Bouzakis (10-0). In the quarterfinals, she beat Brazil's María Tessaro (7-0) and beat Puerto Rican Heklanys Rivera (9-6) in the semifinals.

The Venezuelan Luz Cuauro (65kg) also climbed second place on the podium, after being defeated by fellow American Violette Lasure 3-2. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Beatriz Calasanz from Brazil (5-0) and Sylvia Espinosa from Mexico in the semifinals (11-3), according to the Ministry of Sport press.

The fourth silver metal came in 73 kilos, through Perla Peña who won a victory in the semifinal series against Mexico's Deborah García (10-3) and a defeat in the final match against Ella Palillo, from the United States, with 2-6.

Meanwhile, at 49 kilos, Asia Sánchez took the third rung after winning the repechage round over Mexico's Ana Mora (8-2).

For their part, the male representatives conquered one silver metal and four bronze.

In the Greco-Roman mode, Luigeth Antunez was left with silver metal after falling to the American Carter Shin (8-0). He beat Panamanian Kadir Quiñones in the quarterfinal phase with 8-0, and in the semifinals he also imposed his strength on Peru's Jules Casalino (9-0).

Meanwhile, Luigeth Antùnez fell in the 51-kilo qualifying round to Puerto Rican Cruz Roderick Little (10-0). While in the repechage round, he beat representatives Johnny Aguinda (ECU) and Jorge Ríos (MEX) with scores of 10-0 and 4-3 respectively to take third place.

So did Gabriel José Licon in the 55 kilos, he lost in his first quarterfinal match against Colombian Jovanni Tovar (11-10), it was the repechage round where he won his first joust victory over Puerto Rican Nathaniel James Lyttle with a score of 3-2 to win the bronze medal.

Licon also won bronze metal in the Greek category, but in the 60 kilograms, winning the final 2 (5-2) against his Peruvian opponent Juan Cristaldo.

Rodríguez Haniel, in the 55 kilos, won the bronze medal of the section in the repechage round after beating his Chilean counterpart Dante Barra in final two with 7-0.
