An injury to her right knee prevented Venezuelan Yorgelis Salazar, number 1 in the karate world ranking, from advancing to the fight for medals in the 2025 Premier League parade, held in Hangzhou, China.
Salazar got off to a great start. In her first fight in the -50 kg category in kumite, she easily beat Italy's Asia Agus 5-1.
In her second challenge, she defeated Colombia's representative, Sofía Cárdenas, 7-3, but later withdrew from the competition because she suffered a knee injury and was left out of the medals.
The Bolivarian could not repeat the great performance she had in the first stop of the Premier League in Paris, last January, when she won the bronze medal.
This is the third time that an injury has left Salazar out of the Premier League. Last year in the Turkish parade, he had to settle for the silver medal because a sprained ankle prevented him from competing in the grand final.
For her part, Bárbara Pérez in -55 kg got into the quarterfinals, while Claudymar Garcés, in the -61 kg, and Cleiver Casanova, in the men's kata, said goodbye in their first clashes.
