VI Bienal del Sur “Peoples in Resistance” ended successfully in Caracas

Last Saturday, April 18, the 6th edition of the Southern Biennial “Peoples in Resistance: The Power of Diversity” culminated with a closing ceremony held at the National Cinematheque of the Museum of Fine Arts (MBA), which brought together creators and authorities from the cultural field.
In this regard, the Deputy Minister of Image and Space Arts, Mary Pemjean, stressed that the Biennial reflects the creative character of the country and the participation of new generations committed to art, while reaffirming the impetus for a next edition in 2027.
For his part, the president of the Institute for the Arts of the Image and Space, Zacarías García, pointed out that this edition focused on the BRICS countries, consolidating the event as one of the main artistic platforms in the country and the Caribbean.
During the event, awards were given to international artists, including Reena Kallat Saini (India), Giselle Lucía Navarro (Cuba) and Eduardo Ekman Simões (Brazil), as well as special mentions to representatives from Russia, Rwanda, Iran and Mexico. On a national scale, a posthumous tribute was paid to the photographer Franklin Suárez and the project “Escape from Mérida”, and the work of the artist Eduardo Azuaje, were highlighted.
The VI Bienal del Sur brought together 170 artists, including 80 national creators and 25 international guests from 18 countries, in addition to the participation of 60 exponents in the collective exhibition “Venezuela Tu Mirada”, which evidenced the diversity of proposals present at the event.
The activities were carried out in a circuit that integrated museums and cultural spaces in Caracas, as well as in organized communities, with the purpose of promoting access to art and strengthening cultural identity from an inclusive and territorial perspective.
In addition, at the closing ceremony, the screening of an itinerant project was also announced that will extend the exhibition of works by outstanding international artists, as part of the strategies to expand the reach of the Biennial and consolidate its impact inside and outside the country.
