During the swearing in of the governor of Guiana Esequiba, Neil Villamizar, the executive vice-president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reaffirmed Venezuela's historic right to the territory and denounced the dispossession committed by England since the 19th century.

Rodríguez emphasized that the Venezuelan nation has had sovereignty over Guiana Esequiba since its birth as a Republic, while stressing that Villamizar's victory in this state.

“We are writing history and we have a passport in Guiana Essequiba, a territory that belongs to us,” he said.

He also pointed out that British dispossession constitutes one of the greatest tragedies suffered by the country, referring to the theft of Venezuelan gold by the Bank of England.

“They had been stealing gold for centuries, it's a symbol, just as theft was forged with the Washington Treaty, under the concept of America for Americans,” he said.

In this context, Rodríguez reiterated that the only legitimate way to settle the territorial dispute is the Geneva Agreement, which recognizes the injustice committed against Venezuela.

“The mechanism is the political and diplomatic route,” he said, questioning Guyana's actions before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The vice-president denounced that the government of Guyana has evaded negotiations with Venezuela, acting in bad faith by maintaining agreements behind the facilitation process, such as those signed with the oil company ExxonMobil.
