This Thursday, November 20, the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, stated that the appearance of Commander Hugo Chávez represented a ray of hope for the Venezuelan people, since with him came a new horizon of independence, freedom and recovery of the country's historical roots after decades of political betrayal.

“After so much surrender, so much betrayal of the Venezuelan people, Chávez was the ray of hope for Venezuela; when that man appeared and said 'For now', we knew that a horizon of independence, of freedom and of returning to our historical roots,” he said during the presentation of the National History Award 2025.

He stressed that Venezuela's insurgent history ranges from the struggles of indigenous peoples to the independence feat led by Simon Bolivar, who “liberated five nations and sowed the ideal of the Great Homeland.”

He also highlighted the legacy of Ezequiel Zamora and the Peasant Revolution, as well as of the fighters who faced the dictatorship and later the betrayal of the Punto Fijo pact, whose martyrs form an essential part of the country's historical memory.

Rodríguez argued that the struggles of the “insurgents of all ages” constitute the foundation of the political process that began in 1998 and that, he said, continues to guide the path of the Venezuelan people.
