At 7:00 in the morning (local time), the polls opened in Ecuador for the second round of the presidential elections.

More than 13.7 million Ecuadorian citizens will choose between the current president, Daniel Noboa (right), and the leftist Luisa González.

The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador, Atamaint, called for people to go out and vote.

“We are going to vote with hope, for the country we want for the next generations,” he said.

According to the schedule, the polling stations will be open until 17:00.

In Ecuador, voting is compulsory between 18 and 65 years of age, so voters who do not vote may be fined 10 percent of the unified basic wage.
