The World Health Organization (WHO) raised Ebola cases to an international emergency after confirming 471 infections in the border area between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, where there has been a rapid increase in infections in recent days.
According to the most recent reports, the outbreak is associated with the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, while health authorities reported 100 new cases and 20 deaths in a single day, a situation that has raised the concern of epidemiological surveillance agencies.
The rapid spread of the disease suggests the existence of wider chains of transmission than those identified so far, which has led to the strengthening of monitoring and response actions in the affected region.
Faced with this scenario, the WHO activated the highest level of international alert to coordinate efforts between governments, health agencies and cooperation agencies, with the objective of containing the spread of the virus.
He also urged countries to avoid the imposition of border restrictions, considering that such measures can make it difficult to control outbreaks by limiting early detection of cases and access to essential health resources.
