Wilkeinner Lugo and Katherin Echandia win gold, silver and bronze medals at the Central American Games

Wilkeinner Lugo and Katherin Echandia played brilliant performances in the definitions of the 60 and 53 kilogram titles, respectively, winning gold, silver and bronze medals at the Central American Games in Santo Domingo 2026.

Lugo first got on the platform for the start where he only obtained a valid lift in 126 and a null in 132, in this modality that earned him the bronze medal. The podium was led by Colombian Héctor García, who managed to raise 130 kilos from his first round, and in second place was the Nicaraguan Orlando Vásquez 126 kilos.

The balance tipped in favor of the Venezuelan in the second half for the challenge, where he completed a clean performance, achieving all three valid attempts in 156; 151 and 166, a weight that awarded him the gold medal in the sport.

Vásquez escorted him to second position with a maximum lift of 156, followed by Puerto Rican Luis González with the same weight.

For her part, Echandia achieved a plausible performance, winning the silver medal at the start with 87 kilos, the Mexican Andrea de la Herran dominated the sport with 110 and in third place was the Puerto Rican Asia González with 81.

The Mexican maintained the top in the competition, leading the standings with 110, accompanied by the Venezuelan in second place with 109 and the Colombian Julieth Jiménez with 104.

The national weight team closed its first day with a harvest of six total medals, two gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze.
