Nearly 200 workers from the Ministry of Popular Power of Urban Agriculture (MINPPAU) held a theoretical-practical workshop in two sessions that will provide participants with the general and methodological guidelines necessary to sow, cultivate and harvest their own peppers.

“We took advantage of the meeting space that we built with the Agrourban Morning and we invited our servers to be distributed in four training spaces, in order to exchange knowledge with our field technicians on Urban Agriculture and, based on what we have learned, to participate in the Harvest Your Paprika contest, which will end on October 21 with the award of the best crops in this field”, as reported by Jesús Peña, Deputy Minister of Training and Agrourban Culture.

This workshop was held by officials from the Foundation for Training and Innovation to Support the Agrarian Revolution (CIARA) and the Venezuelan Corporation for Urban and Periurban Agriculture (CVAUP) who accepted the challenge proposed by the Vice Ministry of Training and Agrourban Culture: “Harvest your paprika”.

Meanwhile, Suleima Parra, general director of the Ciara Foundation, stated that this activity involves the participation of technicians from this institution as facilitators, including: T omás Suárez, Luis Murga, Yenny Manzanilla, Linett Álvarez, Adrián Díaz, Gregorio Moreno and Catiusca Gimeno, who will support the formation process of this challenge, which will soon be extended to other states in the country.

“We started with our workforce in Caracas, but the idea is to extend this initiative to other states of the country and for our workers to multiply these experiences in their families and communities,” said Parra, who also added that each worker received the necessary induction and supplies to start producing paprika.

Linett Álvarez, one of the field technicians who taught the Initiation to Urban Agriculture workshop among administrative and worker staff, said that on the first day, participants were explained to the basic elements to consider in order to achieve a successful production of paprika.

“We teach them how they should sow the seeds, the type of soil that benefits these plants the most, watering frequency and optimal time for transplanting, among other recommendations,” Álvarez said.

Naysurime Medina, coordinator of the open classroom that was established in the Bolivar 1 Organoponic for the purposes of this special edition of the Agrourban Morning, indicated that once the induction was received, most of the workers accepted the challenge and registered themselves on the link created to accompany the participants during the period established for this activity.

Finally, Jenny Obregón, a knowledge management worker, thanked Minister Jhoanna Carrillo for the training opportunity provided by Minister Jhoanna Carrillo and invited all agro-urban staff to join the various training plans promoted by the Ciara Foundation.
