World Food Program plans to treat 500,000 people affected by earthquakes in Venezuela

The World Food Program (WFP) of the United Nations (UN) expanded its emergency operations in Venezuela to provide assistance to up to 500,000 people affected by the earthquakes of June 24.

The organization, as reported by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), requested initial funding of 50 million dollars to support food distribution, logistics and communications for three months.

In addition, the multilateral body stressed that it can expand coverage to one million people if it obtains the necessary resources.

In the state of La Guaira, the most affected, WFP began delivering packages containing one-month rations, consisting of cereals, legumes and vegetable oil, for the benefit of 1,200 people. It also set up temporary feeding centers.
