Yamadú Orsi, after being sworn in this Saturday as president of the Republic of Uruguay in the Legislative Palace of the South American nation at 14:00 hrs (local time), received the presidential band from outgoing president Luis Lacalle Pou.

The event took place in the Plaza Independencia in Montevideo, the Uruguayan capital, where Orsi received cheers when those present saw him wearing the presidential band, an action that confirmed the support of the citizens.

After his swearing-in speech, Orsi indicated that Uruguay is beginning a period of permanent construction, and also committed itself to advancing international cooperation agreements, Sputnik reports.

“I, Yamandú Orsi, commit myself for my honor to faithfully carry out the office that has been entrusted to me and to keep and defend the Constitution of the Republic,” said Orsi, who will govern for a period of five years.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by hundreds of guests, a dozen heads of state and special representatives from 60 countries.
