The Yaracuy state government initiated a special reforestation plan on the banks of the Culantrillo ravine in the Independencia municipality.

The president of the Environment and Water Committee of the Legislative Council of Yaracuy State, Sandy Cardona, mentioned that the opening day marks the beginning of the first phase of the project, which aims to plant 600 plants. In this first activity, 100 trees of different species, adapted to the area, were planted.

“The reforestation plan in Cuantrillo is not an isolated action. It responds to an urgent need for the recovery of natural areas that serve as protectors of the water sources that supply the upper part of the Independencia municipality,” said the legislator in a press release.

He noted that the concept of “seeding water” refers to the action of reforesting with native species, such as jabillo and semeruco, that help to infiltrate water into the subsoil, retain moisture and protect against erosion.
