Coffee producers from the La Divina Providencia Production Unit, located in the El Guache sector of the Bruzual municipality of the state of Yaracuy, received training to monitor and control rust (Hemileia vastatrix) and Rooster's eye (Mycena citricolor), two of the most aggressive foliar diseases in this field.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MINCYT), under the Learning By Doing methodology, the facilitators of the Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology (Fundacite) Yaracuy, Giosbelsy Molina and Carlos Chirino, instructed participants in determining drill infestation rates, as well as measuring the incidence and severity of diseases by identifying signs and symptoms in the crop.

In addition, the activity made it possible to determine ecological alternatives through the formation and distribution of three working groups that applied three groups of bioinputs in action: the first used tartage-based plant extract; the second used a microbial consortium with Trichoderma and Bacillus subtilis; and the third applied mineral broths for the entire process.

The central objective is to demonstrate the efficiency of these biological inputs to progressively reduce the use of agrochemicals in coffee plantations.

At the end, each group socialized the monitoring results and generated specific recommendations, strengthening collective learning.
