This Thursday, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, assured that the North Atlantic Organization (NATO) was conceived 75 years ago as an instrument of American hegemony and to date it remains faithful to its purpose.
In addition, the spokeswoman stressed that NATO interventions in the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have had, in her opinion, “the same result: devastated and collapsed countries, vast territories beyond any control by the State, poverty, deterioration of humanitarian problems, countless human victims and millions of migrants.”
“Eager to justify its role as guarantor of the security of the billion gold, the Alliance once again exploited the threat from the East and the adversary role was once again assigned to Russia, defender of an international order that is unacceptable to the West, an order based on multipolarity, international law, equality and the mutual consideration of interests,” he said
According to a Sputnik publication, Zakharova added that “the Atlantic Alliance, in the understanding of the politicians of that time, was going to become a key instrument for establishing and preserving the hegemony of Washington and its allies around the world.”
He concluded by adding that “neither the end of the Cold War nor the disappearance of the USSR and the Warsaw Pact Organization (WTO) have changed the objectives of the Alliance.”
