Five new wards, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), hospitalization areas with 64 beds in total and oncology offices have come into service, starting this Tuesday, May 12, the Pediatric Specialty Hospital in Maracaibo.
The governor of the entity, Luis Caldera, who opened the rehabilitated areas, reported that the recovery and expansion process included doctors' rest spaces, nursing rooms, playgrounds and a kitchen, the Government of Zulia reported in a press release.
“It is a large and leading hospital in western Venezuela that marks the line in the care of children and adolescents and is complemented by the Maracaibo Children's Hospital, which also has other rehabilitated areas,” he stressed.
The center offers services in 28 pediatric specialties. An operating room and four recovery beds are now active in the oncology service to ensure the medical process in all its stages.
Four other pavilions are available for the other specialties offered by the public medical center. In addition, the first floor of the main building was rehabilitated, where the Intensive Care Unit is located, with the capacity to treat five patients simultaneously.
Caldera specified that the 3rd floor was recovered. It now has 32 beds for hospitalization in different pathologies.
On the 5th floor of the medical building, another 32 beds were installed to provide greater comfort to children in their healing processes. “This hospital was inaugurated in 1999; since then it had not received a comprehensive intervention,” said Caldera.
In addition to the recovery of physical spaces, the Cayapa Health Plan of the Government of Zulia provided medical supplies and medications to the Pediatric Specialty Hospital in an agreement with the National Government through the Ministry of People's Power for Health (MPPS).
The single health authority in the region, Luz Mely Caldera, pointed out the importance of recovering the spaces of this hospital institution for the city and children of the entire state of Zulia; while its director, Tulio Chacín, emphasized the importance of the work that benefits the child population.
