On November 10, 2001, Commander Hugo Chávez before the 56th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), in New York, with his keynote speech “Let's save the world!” emphasized that the fight against terrorism must become a priority in order to achieve peace.

The statements were made regarding the military invasion that the United States had initiated on October 7 of that same year in Afghanistan, under the pretext of fighting terrorism.

“Nobody should interpret these words from Venezuela as a condemnation of anything or anyone; it is a call for reflection and to frame ourselves in the norms of international law and the mandates of the United Nations. We can't throw that away,” said Commander Chávez.

Commander Chávez considered that beyond pain, condemnation and the fight against terrorism, the best honor for the fallen would be to establish an alliance to fight against the causes of violence on the planet.

“The voice of Venezuela condemns terrorism. The voice of Venezuela is supportive in the struggles against terrorism, and not only the voice, but also the actions. But at the same time, the voice of Venezuela is a reflection that assumes the mandate of the United Nations, of respect for international law, of respect for human rights,” said the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution.
